Professor Sir John Burn obtained a first class honours degree in human genetics and an MD with distinction from Newcastle University, where he has been Professor of Clinical Genetics since 1991 and led the regional NHS Genetics Service for 20 years. Prof. Sir John Burn is co-creator of the Millenium landmark Centre for Life and chair of the DNA device company, QuantuMDx Ltd. He leads the Cancer Prevention Programme research group at Newcastle University which improved our understanding of the potential of aspirin and resistant starch as cancer-preventive agents and showed, among others, that aspirin reduces the risk for colorectal cancer by half in Lynch syndrome carriers.
In his lecture this year, Prof. Sir John Burn will address the extra-colorectal, extra-endometrial manifestation of Lynch syndrome, and offer a perspective for novel screening approaches for early detection and prevention of these tumors.
